Fate and Destiny

FATE AND DESTINY

I look for signs
Of where to go
What to do
For all my life
Tis all I know

Some say tis folly
Others faith
For me tis who I am
Beyond control
My chosen role

Simply put
Tis to serve
Though truly
I do not deserve

When one aspires
To money and fame
Tis clear
When that person
Has made their name

When one chooses
The former path
Tis unclear
Whether or not
Our goal is near

To others,
I may seem lost
But gladly
I accept that cost
For in truth
The final proof
Is the approval
Of Him on high
And not those
Who we find nigh

What measure
Do we find
For a life lived
For others
And not self

Motives are many
Intentions are varied
If asked
I am not worthy
Though I keep going
Results, not showing

This path we tread
Tis fraught with challenges
Others do dread
As we follow
Life’s guiding thread

Lest we forget
We cannot
One to another measure
For each life lived
Is a life to treasure

What is important
Is not what we do
But whether or not
To our fullest
We grew

On the celestial balance
We are not compared
One to another
But whether or not
We’ve fulfilled our lot

So fate and destiny
Battle within
Neither one
Seemingly do win
And as I march
Through this life
Sometimes with joy
Mostly with strife
I search for
That sign from above
Could it be
The surrounding love
In each and every being
That to our lives
Doeth bring us meaning
Should we choose
To see

One of my stories has captured my attention.  It seems to have taken hold of me and I see the need to expand it to a much longer narrative.  Because of this my poetry has taken a back seat.  I have yet to write one word but the story is developing in my head and will soon find its place on paper.

I find myself thinking about my parents and their twilight years. They are settled in their new life in California close to family.  Theirs has been a life of service that I am grateful to have been a small part of.  They have set the example for me in giving to others and to strive to think of loftier goals in life rather than the pursuit of things material.  I hope to see them soon.
