Towards a Life Well Served

TOWARDS A LIFE WELL SERVED

I waited...

...with breath held tight
That soon would see
The reunion
A spiritual communion
But face to face
With anticipation
My heart did race

Twas not meant to be
That moment
Come and gone
Another scar
Another heart rent

I contemplate, I sit

When we focus
On this world of dust
Our hearts neglect
Our souls doth rust

The pain washes the dust
From our eyes lenses
More clearer do we see
What is ephemeral
What is reality

This does not change the fact
That our hearts break
With pain we ache
And reflect upon
What is seemingly
A grand mistake

Why is it to another, we turn
Allowing our hearts, to burn
With the flame of self
For when on another
We do rely,
For our purpose, our “why”
We lose focus
And our reason doth die

That which,
I find hard to cope
Tis to wish for oneself
And dare to hope
This hope, my enemy to be
For hope leads to loss
Loss to sorrow
And sorry, my destiny
So why is it
A man of reason
Doth repeat
This personal treason

I contemplate, I sit

We lowly ones
Are dual in nature
Never intended
To be alone
Desiring to with another
Make a home
And upon this earth
Together roam

For some it seems
(Which includes me)
Tis not meant to be
For that destiny
From us doth flee
Leaving us wanting
Empty

Where does that lead me now?

This void
I find within
Cannot seeming be filled
From without
I seek sanctuary
From my redoubt
And as my protection
I reach out
And give my all

In some way
This assuages the heart
For the emptiness I find within
I do not in others, let begin

I live many a life
Within my heart
Many a story
Doth play out
Taking the place
Of a life effaced

Life is short
We are but one generation
Disappearing into another
And that to another
And on we go

Tomorrow comes and goes
The years fly
And who knows
The day comes
We are gone
And all this becomes
Meaningless in the end
For in what direction
Did we bend
Towards our self
Or to a greater goal
One to others
We have served
Now that truly is
A life deserved
