Valley of Wonderment

Having found the time to write another poem (see below) i thought i would share another children's story that i wrote some years ago. i hope you enjoy this.

The Valley of Wonderment

There once was a pretty stone. It was a little stone. It was in a little valley and it was all alone. They called the stone Jem. Jem wondered what everything was about. She would sit and wonder what the world around her was like. She knew that there must be more than just the little valley she was resting in. Jem sat and watched around her.

One day something strange happened, grass grew and then more amazingly, trees. Jem was in love with the plants. They grew everywhere and were free to change, unlike Jem and her friends. Change is not easy for a stone. She noticed how strong the plants were. They seemed to be able to grow right into the ground and even into rocks. They were much greater than stones.

Just when Jem was certain that plants were the most incredible beings guess what happened? Animals came. They came a long time after the plants and would eat the plants and the fruit from the trees. She was amazed to find that there was something even greater than plants. She noticed that not only could the animals eat the plants but that they could move stones quickly and with little effort. Some of them would even move the plants to find things to eats like little grubs.

This time Jem was sure that she had seen the most impressive and great beings in animals. After a very long time she noticed a change around her. Something started changing everything around her. Stones started to be piled high into walls and the plants started to be grown in rows. She even noticed that some of the animals started to be less wild and tamer. Jem was curious as to what made all of these changes. You guessed it. People. Jem learned that there was something even greater than animal, plants or minerals, it was people. People had to be the greatest beings there were.

One day a little girl picked Jem up and took her home. Jem was in awe. She was picked. She placed Jem on a shelf with other pretty stones. Jem noticed that the other stones were so happy and no matter what she tried they would not tell her why. She was very interested. Jem was so happy to have finally found something so great in people. That night the little girl came into the room. Jem noticed that the other stones became very attentive to the little girl. Jem wanted to ask her friends what was making them so serious but they hushed her quiet. Jem started to say something to her new friends when they hushed her quiet. One of her friends told her to watch and wait.

What she saw made her the happiest she had ever been. That night Jem learned that there was something greater than people. Something that controlled everyone and everything. She learned this when the little girl sat quietly and started to say her prayers. That was when Jem learned about God.

Depth

It has been over a month since i last posted on my blog. The primary reason, other than lots of family visits, is that Austin has a Cedar pollen infestation (i say infestation due to the fact that it kills my sinus's). What we call Cedar here is actually a Mountain Juniper tree. Each year it is a ritual of breathing issues, sinus issues and even the eyes being effected. As i sit here typing my right eye is bloodshot from pollen. One of the other unfortunate side effects is that my walking was stopped. this weekend i could take it no longer. i walked 2.6 miles Saturday and 4 miles Sunday. When i walked by the Cedar and hit the branch a cloud of pollen would fly off of the tree.

Having been able to walk, i found my mind going to writing again. Many poems are swimming in my head and this one was the first to come out. i was reflecting on friends, family, love, friendship and life in general the result of my musings. Here is the poem.

Depth

Delving deep within my heart
Knowing not what I will see
Searching at a time of peace
A time of comfort, within me

There before me the angel stands
The inner eye reminds
That gem once let go
Before me dost show
and then I find
a resonance from within
reminding me to my chagrin
that these hearts
will never part
whether tis here or beyond
an unbreakable bond
i step away and leave in peace
