Slipping Tethers
|
I was alone
Or so I thought
Looking around
At what God wrought
I realized alone
I am not
Each day
Alters my life
In a different way
As I sit
And reverently pray
I begin to see
The connections
In a new way
The signs of love
Were all around
This I could not see
With eyes
Inwardly bound
Fro most of life
I’ve been alone
A plight
I didst bemoan
Searching for another
My life did roam
Thinking elsewhere
I would find home
All along
I did not see
That truly
You were there
With me
Each night
As I fall in sleep
A watch over me
Do You keep
When I walk
Through trees and forest
Ti's a time towards You
I feel closest
Ti's You I see
In every face
And I begin to gleam
My place
Or so it would seem
The earthly thoughts
Now but a trace
My heart beats faster
These days going by
As great changes
Ahead I spy
The earthly tethers
Holding me down
Are slipping
And one by one,
Falling down
I raise my head
And my gaze redirect
Towards the everlasting
That I did neglect
And with a new understanding
Am I aware
And taking a step
Do I dare
-Shiidon, April 2012
I was reflecting on the subject of solitude, loneliness and our search to be with others. I remember a few years ago realizing that I was "waiting" for the right time to do things. For example, I was waiting to see the opera until I had someone to share it with. I was waiting on this or that. Well, I decided to live and not wait. Wait? Wait for what? So, I use the good china, I cook meals even thought its just me. I have been going to the Opera. This past week I saw Turandot which was amazing. It was set in China (yay) with a Persian prince (yay) who is killed right away (booh). Anyway it was great.
My meditations took me to new thoughts recently. I have people all around all week, I have people I interact with online and in person from time to time. What is new to me is the understanding that while I may have no one around me I am always surrounded by the knowledge of the love of God. So that is the inspiration for the poem.
On a side note, changes are happening. My parents have now officially moved to California for their next adventure. Their apartment will be ready in a week and they ware close to family. I will hopefully fly out there soon (maybe in the middle of the hot summer here) to see them. I know that they will miss Ruidoso after twenty years there but now they are not mostly isolated on a mountain top.

Nice Shiidon! I like your comments after your poems a lot too. The notion of waiting- for what?- is great. Our life is short. Sometimes I feel most connected with everything when I'm "alone" too. And connectedness is a key to movement, I think. take care my friend-
